Emily Hoffman
36 | Lead Graphic Designer & Copywriter, The Vermont Flannel Company & Vermont Teddy Bear
Residence: Washington
Career Highlights: Last year, I transitioned to a full-time role as a graphic designer and copywriter (after many years of doing it part-time)—a dream come true! I’m proud to use creativity to support a company that produces handcrafted goods and strengthens local economies.
Community Involvement: For several years, I volunteered as an Associate Representative for the New England Region of the Graphic Artists Guild, where much of our work centered on building community among creative professionals.
In recent years, I’ve focused my efforts closer to home. Whether helping the Barre City Cow Pasture with social media, hanging flyers for Planned Parenthood, or pitching in at local events, I love finding small, hands-on ways to give back.
What motivated you to live and work in Vermont: I moved to Vermont at 18 to pursue education as an artist—drawn by the fresh air, the trees, and the farms! I’m still here because I continue to be fascinated by Vermont’s awe-inspiring natural world and its beautiful communities of people.
Favorite Vermont season: Spring! I love discovering spring ephemeral plants in the woods, and sniffing all the flowers.
Favorite downtime activity: I love to dance!
What is your favorite smell: Wild roses.
If you had unlimited access to funds, which cause(s) would you support: I would transition the world to renewable energy and create community food gardens everywhere.
What career goal(s) would you like to accomplish in the next 5-10 years: I’ve been returning to my roots in drawing and painting, and I hope to grow a side career as a fine artist. I also want to continue mastering the art and craft of design and storytelling!
Drawing on your experiences, what advice would you give to someone looking to get involved in community service: Identify what you’re passionate about—then you won’t be able to stop yourself from getting involved!
