Hazel Brewster

28 | Director of Communications, State of Vermont, Department of Economic Development
Residence: Washington

Career Highlights: I’ve always thought that if I could make a career out of loving our state, I would be happy. I’m very proud that so far I’ve been able to do that. My work in public service, policy, and politics has all been rooted in my pride in being a Vermonter.

Community Involvement: Vermont Commission on Women, Committee on Reproductive Justice & Sexual Health

What motivated you to live and work in Vermont: I really can’t imagine being anywhere else. This is where my husband and I were born and raised, and we’re so grateful our kids will be too.

Favorite Vermont escape: Anywhere on a mountain bike in the Northeast Kingdom.

Favorite Vermont season: Fall, after the humidity goes away but before it gets cold.

Person you would most like to share a Vermont beverage with: Stephen Colbert (and his wife, Evie!)

If you had unlimited access to funds, which cause(s) would you support: Little Bellas and Songadeewin of Keewaydin, which both empower girls through outdoor experiences. Little Bellas, a nationwide organization headquartered in Richmond, is “mentoring on mountain bikes,” while Songadeewin, a summer camp on Lake Dunmore, creates confidence through wilderness adventure.
