Career Highlights: The career highlight I’m most proud of is, as an inpatient staff nurse, stepping up and becoming my unit’s nurse educator in the very early days of the pandemic when so much was unknown and every day there was some new protocol or practice change. For many years my unit had not had a nurse educator stay in the position for more than a year and a half and I was determined to be the constant that my colleagues could rely on while so much in the world was in flux. Though this was a few years ago now, and while I was only in the position myself for three and a half years, this is still one of the things I am most proud of in my career.
Community Involvement: Some of my community involvement includes working with school districts across Vermont to create and refine Cardiac Emergency response plans, including providing Basic Life Support CPR training to faculty and students, collaborating with Vermont Air and Army National Guards to reestablish in-house Basic Life Support training programs, and spreading awareness and enthusiasm for the profession of Nursing to Chittenden County high school students at various school-sponsored job fairs and career showcases.
What motivated you to live and work in Vermont: I was motivated to live and work in Vermont by the diverse and welcoming communities, professional and social, that I’ve been privileged to be a part of as both a native Vermonter and healthcare professional.
Favorite part of your job: My favorite part of my job is, when teaching a new concept or skill to someone, the moment when it begins to “click” for them, and I can see in their face that they’re excited.
Favorite Vermont season: My favorite Vermont season is Summer—the hotter, the better.
Favorite downtime activity: My favorite downtime activity is sitting outside on a hot, sunny day reading a good book.
What is your favorite smell: My favorite smell is strong fresh brewed coffee.
What one song is on your playlist that are you embarrassed to tell your best friend: The song on my playlist I would be embarrassed to tell my best friend is anything by Chappell Roan.
