Sarah Blizzard
39 | Associate Director Greater Bennington Community Services
Residence: Bennington
Career highlight: Pivoting from a career in higher education to one in community services. I had never considered a career outside of higher education, and after moving to Vermont and needing a change, I took a huge leap of faith on a job that has allowed me to get to learn and serve my community more intimately than I had ever expected.
Community involvement: My community involvement includes serving on the board of Shires Young Professionals and the Bennington Free Library, and starting a queer-centered choir that performed its first concert at Bennington Pride in June.
Motivation for living and working in Vermont: I was motivated to live and work in Vermont by accident! I was following a spouse, and while I had never expected to make Vermont a long-term home, I cannot imagine living anywhere else!
Favorite part of your job: Working to problem solve complex situations with individuals and families. It allows me to be helpful to those in my community while also keeping my brain stimulated. I also get to work with some amazing co-workers!
Best career advice you’ve received: ”The only ’bad’ mistake you can make is the one you make twice.”
Three words that best describe you: Curious, collaborative and creative.
Favorite Vermont season: Fall … or winter. (I am a Blizzard, after all.)
Favorite downtime activity: Journaling.
